Clear space around the mark of at least the height of the ² on every side. It is a machined object; it needs a chamfer of empty space.
Use the mark the way the shop works.
This is a record of what's in use, not a proposal. The mark, the colour values and the typefaces below are the ones deployed on this site — sampled, not invented. Anyone producing signage, print, embroidery or merchandise for MS² should match these.
One lockup, used everywhere.
Chris's own mark. It runs in the header, the footer and the browser tab, and it is the only lockup in service — there is no alternate wordmark and no symbol-only variant in use.

Left: on bone, the default. Centre: on ink, riding a bone plate — never knocked out. Right: it holds down to about 15px tall before the MACHINERY line closes up.
Sampled from the mark, not chosen near it.
Forest is the green in Chris's logo. Everything else is built around it. These are the live values — the site will not match anything printed from a different set.
The brand green, sampled from the mark. Buttons, rules, accents.
Hover and pressed states. Type on bone where green must read as text.
Dominant ground. Paper, spec sheets, the light half of the site.
Type and structure. The dark sections and the footer plate.
Accents on ink only. Never on bone — it fails contrast.
Interactive states on dark ground.
Deepest field. Large areas, never type.
Warnings and pending states. Used sparingly, never decoratively.
Three faces, three jobs.
Geist
Body, interface, everything readable
300 for body, 400–500 for headings. Set headings tight (-0.02em) and let body breathe.
Geist Mono
Labels, data, part numbers, addresses
Uppercase with 0.14–0.18em tracking for eyebrows. Tabular figures wherever numbers line up.
Instrument Serif
Display moments only
Used at the top of documents and on a handful of headings. Never for body copy, never small.
Five rules, and they're all about restraint.
The mark ships in one form. No gradients, no drop shadows, no outlining, and no substituting a different green because it looked better on a mug.
On ink or a photograph, the mark sits on a bone plate rather than being knocked out or reversed. That is how the footer does it and it is deliberate.
Forest is the accent, not a second body colour. If two things are green, neither reads as important.
MS² is a drawn lockup, not type. Do not rebuild it in Geist, Arial or anything else — use the asset.
A second, chrome/checkered-flag variant of the mark exists and is deliberately unused on the website — it reads as motorsport rather than machine tools at small sizes. It is a reasonable candidate for merchandise or a one-off, with the owner's sign-off.
A transparent industrial-embossed version of the mark also exists in the marketing folder. It suits a footer plate or apparel; it is not a substitute for the header lockup.
Producing something with the mark on it?
Ask before it goes to print. Getting the green wrong on 500 shirts is an expensive way to find out the values matter.
